Survivor Heroes and Villains - March 24/10

Well here we are, back after our March Madness break.

Just to refresh your memories, its night 14 and the Heroes have just sent Tom home - another in a long list of Heroes sent packing. Candace had been adamant that the injured James should go, but now tells us she voted for Tom so as not to make anyone mad. In spite of that, Amanda tells us that no one trusts Candace and she should be the next Hero leaving on the Suckstobeyou Train.

Over at Camp Villain, Russell/Egg decides to have a little chat with Boston Rob. His intent is make Rob think that things are all nicey nicey between them. In fact, Russell tells us privately that Rob is a threat and anyone who threatens Russell is going down. The chat doesn't go well since Rob tells Russell that the tribe is pissed because he went looking for the hidden idol. The conversation ends with both of our two alpha males stalking away while telling the other to watch his back.

The next day an ambiguous tree mail note arrives. There will be a challenge involving hope and rope but beyond that no one can quite figure out what is going on. When they meet with Dimples he tells them both tribes will be going to Tribal Council to vote someone off. Each tribe will compete separately to establish who gets immunity. The winning member from each tribe will then compete against each other for reward. The challenge involves each tribe member being connected to a long rope that winds in, around, under and about a series of wooden obstacles. The Survivors must follow their rope through the course by climbing, twisting and crawling. Candace wins for the Heroes, thus making it impossible for them to follow through on their plan to send her home. Boston Rob wins immunity on the Villains team. Rob and Candace then square off to see which of their teams will win reward - a feast of hot dogs and soft drinks. Rob beats Candace to win reward for the Villains.**

The tribes return to camp to await Tribal Council and to strategize. On the Villains side, Coach finds himself squarely in the middle of two alliances. Rob hatches a plan where-by they will make Russell think he is going to be voted off, thus flushing out the idol. In reality though, they will vote for Parvati. But Russell is on to their game and says he will vote for Tyson and give Parvati his idol. Just when you think you know what's going on, Rob decides that they should split the votes between Russell and Parvati, ensuring that one of the two goes home. Russell figures this out too, and goes to Tyson. He tells Tyson that he is giving up and voting for Parvati. He can't stay loyal to her any more. Tyson, anxious to get the whole thing over with, decides to vote for Parvati too, thus messing up Rob's plan of three votes each.

Over at Camp Hero things are a little more straightforward. Colby says he knows he is going home and asks if they can just relax and enjoy the afternoon. James is disappointed in Colby. Apparently Colby is his all-time Survivor hero and he has let James down with his girly-man performance in the challenges. But there is still a faction that want's James to go. Amanda warns James that he better prove he can run and he better stop stealing bananas (the tribe has noticed). To do the former he has a race with JT, which JT wins while running backwards. To do the latter, James offers JT a banana.

So we get to Tribal Council. The Villains are up first. The votes are cast and Dimples asks if anyone wants to play an idol. Russell stands up and comes forward but surprises everyone by turning and giving the idol to Parvati. When the votes are counted Parvati has 4 votes, none of which count. Russell has two votes and Tyson has 3. Had Tyson stuck with Rob's plan he wouldn't be going home. But he didn't and he is. With Tyson goes Roberta from out pool. No one picked Tyson to win the million.

The Villains now get to eat their hot dogs while they listen in on the Hero's Tribal Council. James once again tells us how disappointed he is in Colby. He says its like finding out that Superman is wearing a fat suit. But fat suit or not, when the votes are counted, it is not Colby but James who is heading home. Amanda looks particularly miserable (understandable when we later see that she was one of those who voted against him). With James goes Pam from our pool. Lisa and Barb both picked James to be the overall winner so they are sad to see him go too.

So tonight we are down two. Who will be the next to go? See you next week to find out when we return to the regular Thursday schedule. Until then...

Survivor Heroes and Villains March 11/10

As we rejoin our intrepid Heroes, they are returning to camp having given Cirie the boot. Colby says JT is a hero for voting against his alliance. JT quickly does damage control, saying he did it for the team, not for himself (I want to believe him. Really I do...I LOVE JT). But Rupert is PO'd and when JT makes puppy eyes at Amanda and asks her to trust him, she tells us she doesn't believe him.

Meanwhile, at Camp Darkside, Coach is leading the villains in Dragonslayer Qi (his choice of words, not mine). Generally the villains seem to be buying into the physical part of the routine, but when Coach starts chanting some Tibetan rap thing there are a lot of snickers and eyes being rolled back into heads. For his part, Russell isn't impressed at all. Our EGG is going to spend his time looking for the idol (and really people, isn't that what this game is about?)Of course Russell being Russell he uproots trees for three hours and does manage to find the idol. "Here it goes again", says EGG.

For the reward challenge three members of each tribe battle in the mud to retrieve balls. They then toss the the balls to three tribemates on a platform who try to throw the ball across the compound and into a basket. James goes down early in the competition and medics are called in to look at his left knee. They pull him out of the challenge, though, for the moment, leave him in the game. So the Heroes must finish the challenge without the mighty James. Amanda gets the first basket for the Heroes and things are looking rosy for the good guys. JT and Coach get down and nasty and JT tosses Coach on the ground in a most un-zen manner. Jerri takes a hard hit from Rupert, then goes on to score the winning basket for the Villains. So the Villains head off on their reward...a chocolate feast at a resort-y kind of place. As they choke back all manner of chocolate their experience ranges from chocolate euphoria to chocolate nausea (and that's just Jerri). Of course chocolate-addled minds eventually turn to strategy. Rob, Coach, Jerri and a couple of other villains find some alone time and decide that Russell must have the idol (having noticed the new mole-hills all through the jungle). Rob says they must vote for Russell to flush it out. Of course our EGG has other plans. He tells Pavarti he has the idol and tells her they must get Coach on-side in order to get rid of Rob. When Russell tells Coach he has the idol, Coach actually kneels before him, saying he is honoured that Russell has put his trust in him. Russell "beknights" the kneeling Coach and tells us privately that now it is the King and the Dragonslayer (more like the king and the Royal fool).

Back on the battlefield, the Heroes have been sent back to camp, while the Medics take another look at James' knee. This is James' second injury in Survivor. Sorry Selina but I think the guy has been using steroids to get that dream bod. In any case, the folks back at camp are beginning to doubt he will be back. Amanda begins to cry, saying she is like James' little sister. Round about then Tom spots James limping across the beach toward camp. Amanda runs to meet him and throws her arms around her "big brother" (yeah right and Brad Pitt is my foster mother). James has his leg in a splint and is moving pretty slowly. Candace comments that James is now dead weight, suggesting he should be the next to go.

For the Immunity Challenge, all members of each tribe with the exception of one, are blindfolded. The unblindfolded person must verbally guide his team mates to locate 10 huge and heavy puzzle pieces scattered in a field. James, due to his infirmity, is the guide for the Heroes, an unfamiliar role for him. Jerri is the caller for the Villains. Both callers do an admirable job and, once again, the Heroes take an early lead. However, as in past challenges, we see their lead evaporate once it comes to putting the puzzle together. Rob guides the last piece into place and jumps on it to drive it home. Once again, our Heroes are going to have to go to Tribal Council to send someone home. Colby, Tom and Candace think that James is the obvious choice. Rupert and Amanda are adamant that it must be Tom. Candace feels that Tom is a risky choice and JT agrees. Well, actually, JT agrees with everyone, a fact that is being noticed in the camp. He agrees with Rupert that Tom should go, and he agrees with Colby that James should go. He can't cross us again, say Rupert.

So, once again, the Heroes head off to Tribal Council with JT as the unknown swing vote. But this time JT sides with the Rupert/Amanda camp. When Dimples tallies the votes Tom is heading back home for dinner with the missus. With Tom goes Selina from our pool, though I know Selina will still be watching, lustfully until James heads home. Somewhat surprisingly (at least to your humble scribe) no one picked Tom to win the million.

Until next week,

Survivor Heroes and Villains - March 4/10

Its night 8. The Villains arrive back at camp having just evicted Randy (who no one seems to miss much). We learn that Coach was greatly offended by Sandra's comments about him at Tribal Council. He tells Tyson what a sensitive guy he is, just managing to hide it behind his machismo, while keeping busy doing noble things. Then (oh m'god, tell me this isn't happening!!) Coach starts to cry. To his credit, Tyson handles it well, giving Coach a hug and telling him that he is there for him. He also offers to "coach" coach to get him back in tight with the tribe. Tyson suggests that maybe wearing feathers to Tribal Council is a little over the top. And those stories. The stories have to stop says Tyson. Nobody (NOBODY) wants to hear those stories. But no. Coach has to be true to himself. The feathers and the stories are who he is. The next day Coach takes his troubles to Rob. He tells Rob he is on the outside. He isn't one of the cool kids. Rob tells him that isn't true and asks Coach to trust him. Keep your head up and act like a man, says Rob. Coach promptly wanders off to do yoga while muttering that there is strength in weakness, he is one of a kind, last of the Mohicans, blah blah blah. My God! Where does this man come up with this stuff? Any small amount of sympathy I was feeling vanished like that little diamond mine I bought shares in a while back.

Tree mail arrives including a Sears catalogue from which the tribes pick their preferred luxury items. Clutching their wish lists, they hike off to find Dimples for the reward challenge. Members from each tribe go head to head, sliding wet bodies* across a wet slippery surface to try to retrieve a suspended ball. The first one from each pair to retrieve their ball and shoot a basket wins a point for their tribe. The first tribe to get 4 baskets wins reward. It comes down to a shoot out between Tyson and Colby, but Tyson sinks his basket first, giving the Villains another win. They cheerfully gather up their swag (knives and stuff to make their shelter more livable) and head back to camp. Once there, someone finally notices that the machete is missing. But before Russell can get any decent gloating done, a rolled up piece of paper falls out from the handle of a knife that came with their reward package. Bostom Rob snatches up the note and reads it aloud. It is a clue to an immunity idol hidden somewhere on their beach. Russell is mortified that he let the clue fall into the hands of the tribe, especially when they decide to find the idol and collectively destroy it. Russell wanders off by himself to look for the idol, causing Rob to send Sandra to spy on him. Although Russell doesn't find the idol, his obvious attempt to find it draws the wrath of the tribe. Rob calls him a stupid ass and likens him to a Hobbit on Crack. As a group, the Villains decide that Russell should be the next to go.

Over at Camp Hero, the tribe has decided to drown their sorrows in a good cup of coffee. As JT digs out a handful of coffee he finds a rolled up piece of paper buried in the Arabica. Sure enough, it is the Hero's version of where to find the hidden idol. Unlike the Villains, the Heroes all suddenly develop a strange glazed look and begin to scatter in all directions to look for the idol. Tom, Cirie and James are all digging under the same tree, when Tom unearths the idol. He quickly hides it in his sock but is spotted by Amanda. And so Tom has the idol, but everyone knows it.

For the Immunity Challenge, each tribe must select one member to ride in a large wooden ball. That person must guide two blindfolded tribe mates to roll the ball down a trail. At the end of the trail the same person must direct four other blindfolded tribe mates to get a ball through a table maze. Tom directs for the Heroes and Boston Rob for the Villains. Both men do an admirable job, but the Villains beat the Heroes by a hair.

Back at camp, Tom apologizes for the loss but knows he is a target because he has the idol. The strategizing heats up. Cirie wants Tom to go. She and Candace cook up a scheme to split the votes so that Tom will go if he doesn't play the idol, and Colby will go if he does play it. But JT tells us that he trusts Tom and Colby more than Candace, and would like to see Candace go. Tom offers to give the idol to Amanda and JT and has a measure of success and cementing an alliance with them. However Cirie refuses to vote for Candace and tells us that Amanda is not the sharpest tool in the shed for suggesting such a scheme. Break up the powerful Tom/Colby alliance, says Cirie. JT overhears this conversation and tells Tom that he is no longer in control and that Cirie is running the show. Not finished yet, Tom hatches a plan that will split the vote and send Cirie home. Poor JT (I love JT) tells us that he knows how everyone is voting except for himself. But when the votes are cast at Tribal Council Tom plays his idol, canceling any votes against him. The remaining votes are for Colby and Cirie. In the end, Cirie is the one heading home. Debbie from our pool heads off with Cirie for a shower and a good meal. No one picked Cirie and the ultimate winner.

* Selina! Did you see James all oiled up OMG!

Survivor Heroes and Villains February 25

Thanks Lynn!

Pat was disqualified from writing tonight due to her use of naughty words which causes people's employers to block the update. South Korea commiserates. You may find this version of events a little disjointed as I completed some Olympic worthy channel changes during this episode.

Back at camp after Tribal Council, James is still yakking. Tom and Colby have a little conference and decide perhaps the Heroes aren't all going to make nice. You think?

There's a surprising turn of events at the Villains camp. And let me tell you no one is more surprised than Russell's wife as Pavarti and he get down to some serious canoodling. Giggling (yes Russell was giggling), snuggling and big ole smiles all around. Boston Rob, who has taken the role of elder statesman this season, says the best way to determine who is aligned with who is to look at their sleeping arrangements. The camera slowly pans by Ruvarti, then zeroes in on Coach gently caressing Jerry's hair. Ahhh. The crowd gives a big cheer for Hayley Wickenheiser - whoops that was the Olympics again.

Back at Heroes Central, JT is getting to know Candice. He doesn't like what he hears. Candice, the medical student, appears to be smart. Who would have thunk? That doesn't mesh with JT's plans so off he goes to divide and conquer. JT tells Cirie Candice doesn't trust her. Cirie confronts Candice who denies it. Candice then spends the rest of the episode interrogating her tribe mates to find out who is messing with her. Let's rewind, JT questions you about your alliances and specifically focuses in on Cirie. Maybe Candice isn't that smart.

Boston Rob and Coach caution Russell about his new found buddy Pavarti. She's not to be trusted, they say. Coach is especially stern with Russell. So that night when Coach is telling everyone bed time stories, Russell hides the machete. He figures the ensuing clamour will deflect the spotlight from Ruvarti.

At the reward/immunity challenge Survivors have the opportunity to win back their personal luxury item as well as coffee, sugar, and rice. Tonight's challenge is sumo mud wrestling. The survivors pair off against each other on a wooden raft in a big pool of mud. Each survivor has a large, padded blocky thing (sorry didn't catch the name - Olympics again) which they use to try to push their opponent off into the mud. This was a mudslide victory for the Heroes who won every match.

So now the Villains have to vote their first person off. Two names immediately pop up. First Randy is mentioned because he's old and useless. They only said he was old, I added useless. Coach's choice is Pavarti because all the men (except him) lose control of their brain cells around Pavarti. Jerri champions this choice and says that she'd like to punch Pavarti in the face. The love seems to be mutual as Pavarti tells the camera that Jerri is just a bitter old cougar. Meow!

As Coach prepares to leave for the pivotal vote, he says he hates to pontificate but... Man, this guy likes to hear himself talk. Tonight's gems of wisdom were quotes from Martin Luther King where Coach seemed to be equating his Survivor journey to Martin Luther King's struggles. Holy self absorption Coach!

At Tribal Council, Dimples asks if there is a tribe leader. Sandra indicates that Boston Rob is until she gets tired of listening to him and that Coach tries to be, but is usually two miles away when anything needs to be done. Coach takes offense because if you didn't already know he is the hardest working person at camp. When he gets off his soapbox, the votes are cast. Old Man Randy's flame is snuffed sending me to the sidelines. I don't even care, that's how much I dislike Randy.

**Last week Pat touched on some inconsistencies with Boston Rob's dramatic performance on the floor of the jungle. I don't mean to add to the conspiracy theory this season, but where the hell are all these chickens coming from? I don't have that many chickens in Farmville.

Until next time,
Lynn aka gone and already forgotten Randy

Survivor Heroes and Villains - February 18, 2010

Well I have just pulled my heart out of my throat after the Canada/Swiss hockey game. As much as I love Switzerland (I have been there, its lovely, the people friendly) it has no business being that good at hockey. But I digress.

Its night 3. It's raining. Its cold. The roof is leaking. The Villains are whining. Boston Rob wonders why everyone is crying and whining instead of just fixing the shelter. He also wonders why he seems to have ended up with yet another tribe of buffoons. The next morning renovation #5 of the shelter begins. Randy who, you recall, is "saving" himself, stands back and comments that the shelter gets worse with each attempt at improvement. Boston Rob continues to get frustrated leading one of the women to comment, somewhat prophetically as it turns out, that she "hopes he doesn't drop dead". Rob eventually stalks off into the jungle, saying he is not feeling good. He mutters that he is done building and tired of being a diplomat. Suddenly, Rob goes down. Jerri comes across him lying in the jungle** and tries to wake him up. Rob mumbles that she should get help. The Aussie medics promptly arrive to take a look at Rob and decide he not as bad as he looks and that he can stay in the game. At this point Boston Rob, the king of reality television, breaks down and tearfully tells Dimples "Its getting the best of me and I love and respect this game too much to not play". He also tells us that as he was coming to, he had a moment of clarity and that he needs to stop being the good guy. He also tells us the diagnosis of his condition - the flu and crybabyitis, a viral condition endemic to the South Pacific as well as some Olympic venues. Although Russell has been noticeably irritated by Rob's dominance in the camp, he comments that he is glad Rob is staying in the game. In an moment of uncharacteristic humanity, Russell tells us that "even though I am a villain I worry a bit about stuff like that".

Over at Camp Hero (where they actually play hero-type music if you listen closely) things look like they are clicking along smoothly. They are working industriously, laying palm fronds on the roof of their shelter. However if you dig a little deeper there are some problems. Rupert has taken a dislike to Stephanie and wants to get rid of her. Stephanie feels Rupert is annoying and thinks he is taking the good guy routine a little too far. This doesn't sit well in our house since Rick has been paired with Stephanie and I, just moments before the show started, picked her to win all the marbles.

The two tribes reunite with Dimples for a combined Reward/Immunity challenge. The winning tribe will get a tarp, some nails and a rope. They will also get to avoid Tribal Council. The challenge involves pairs from each tribe running out and rolling back huge crates. Once they have gotten all 6 crates back to their home base, they must stack the crates in such a way that their tribe name appears on both sides. Once they have the crates correctly assembled they can use them as stairs to get to the top, and claim victory. Tom suggests the Heroes listen to JT as he has experience with this challenge. The strategy seems to pay off, as the heroes take an early lead in what is obviously a physically demanding challenge. But, as in the last puzzle challenge, things begin to go wrong when it comes time to assemble the crates. On the Villains side, Rob barks out orders and gets the job done, while the Heroes all have an opinion and all seem to be wrong. When the challenge is over the Heroes have lost (again) and James is mad. He focuses most of his anger on Stephanie. Back at camp James is still on about it...in fact James never said that much on an entire season of his previous Survivor appearances. Really. Who peed in this man's coconut milk? Stephanie is still his target and he wants her out. Stephanie tries to hold her tongue, as does her buddy Tom, but James is on a roll. He lobbies the tribe, telling them that Stephanie was responsible for the fall of her tribes during her other Survivor appearances. JT wonders which way to turn, knowing someone is going to be PO'd no matter what. Stephanie and Tom decide that the only way to save Stephanie's bacon is to get Cirie and Candace onside to vote out Amanda. Tom approaches Candace and Stephanie talks to Cirie.

James has brought his MAD along to Tribal Council. He yells at Stephanie, who is defended by Colby and Tom. But in spite of the support of two Survivor powerhouses, Stephanie finds her torch being snuffed just a few moments later. With Stephanie goes Rick who claims that he lost because he actually remembered to give me his money this time. I chose Stephanie to win, as did Grace so both of us can kiss the subsidiary prize goodbye.

** Is it just me or did Rob's collapse in the jungle look just a little staged? The way he was laying? The fact that he managed to fall with something under his head? The fact that no cameraman saw him go down but Jerri was conveniently nearby in the jungle to come to his rescue. Hmmmmmmm.

Just to let you know who picked who to win, here is the list.

Debbie - Boston Rob
Georgia - Boston Rob
Grace - Stephanie
Kathy - Courtney
Lisa - James
Roberta - Colby
Jack - Colby
Barb - James
Selina - Amanda
Cheryl - Boston Rob
Mitzi- JT
Rick - Sandra
Pat - Stephanie
Donna - Russell

Survivor Heroes and Villains - Feb 11/10

For those of us who enjoy uncontrolled violence and unabashed nudity, this was a great way to kick off the 20th season of Survivor.

As most of you know by now, this season pulls together some of the best known Survivor contestants from past seasons and pits them against each other as heroes and villains. They are divided into two tribes named, cleverly enough, Heroes and Villains. We start off with a glimpse of each tribe as they approach their beach by helicopter. No getting thrown off a fishing trawler for this group. No they get the star treatment. We see Coach doing weird Coachy stuff on the helicopter as Sandra looks on warily. We learn that Russell, the Survivor formerly known as Evil Garden Gnome is a little starstruck by his companions. We learn that JT the good 'ole southern boy is not above kicking a little ass, and we learn that Jerri, the original Survivor bad girl feels like Mother Theresa amidst her villainous brethern. The Heroes land on the beach first, and the arrival of the Villains is heralded by appropriately foreboding music. There are some introductions led by Jeff Probst (aka Dimples) during which we learn that most of the villains feel they are really poorly cast heroes. But it doesn't take them long to ramp up the evil and get into their parts.

After the introductions we launch right into the first reward challenge and its a nasty one. Two members of each tribe run out into a little strip of sand where they locate and dig up a buried bag. The trick is to then get that bag to home base while being tackled, mauled and generally brutalized by the opposition. The first tribe to get three bags to their home base wins reward - a flint to start a fire. Danielle gets the first bag to home base for the Villains at which point there is a short stoppage in play while the medics come in to pop Stephanie's shoulder back into its socket. After a grind and a crunch the job is done and the game resumes complete with Stephanie. JT gets the next point for the Heroes (did I mention that I love JT), the Coach drags Colby (clutching a bag) onto the Villains mat. At this point Tyson comments that Colby might as well become a woman). A topless Sugar (her bikini top having been undone in the skirmish), takes a bag across for the Heroes, tying the score at 2-2. The last round pits James and Rupert vs Tyson and Boston Rob. In the end James grabs the bag and makes a run for home, winning reward for the Heroes. Rupert has broken his two in two or three pieces but the Heroes have won their first reward and have fire as well as glory.

The Villains return to camp to find that their day isn't a total wash out. Someone has left swim fins and some fishing gear in camp. The women hunker down to figure out who, along with Boston Rob will be the major player. Meanwhile Russell is wasting no time in seeking out women with whom to form alliances. He uses the "Trust me and I'll take you to the final two" line with both Danielle and Parvati. Danielle figures its worth a shot while Parvati knows Russell is playing the game but is not above making a deal with the devil. Meanwhile Russell tells us that in every sport there is someone who rises above the rest. Michael Jordon, Michael Phelps...and Russell is that guy in Survivor (at least according to Russell). He is, he tells us the best player ever to play the game.

Over at the Good Guys camp Colby is not quite wishing he was a woman but is certainly not happy with being beaten by Coach. Sugar seeks advice on the shelter from the "two oldest men in camp" Tom and Rupert. Amanda is feeling the good energy of the tribe and Rupert is feeling that it's good to be a hero. Into all this happiness wander four unsuspecting chickens. Directed by Tom, the Heroes surround the chickens and toss the fishing net over them. The next morning, JT spins the rooster to break its neck and the Heroes dine on chicken stew for breakfast. But not before Sugar keeps them all awake by trying to cuddle up to a somewhat resistant Colby. And of course, alliances are forming. JT and James decide they have a lot in common. They are both hard workers, they are both strong competitive players, and they both need subtitles when they talk. Colby and Candace are rekindling an alliance they had when they previously appeared on Survivor, as are Amanda and Cirie, and Tom and Stephanie.

Over at camp Evil the thoughts are more...well...evil. They are counting up the injuries on the Heroes team and revelling in the harm they have inflicted. But amidst all these happy thoughts it seems a little romance is blossoming between Jerri and Coach. Oh! Say it isn't so! The whole camp seems to be aware of it as Jerri giggles and flirts and Coach looks dumbstruck. Everyone seems to want to play a part in the matchmaking of the black widow and the dragonslayer. But Boston Rob is finding his team a little ADHD. They can't focus on anything for more than 10 minutes, says Rob. Rob wants to start a fire, but Randy discourages it for fear of wearing themselves out. Surely, says Randy, we will get fire sometime in the next 39days. But Rob takes over and directs a successful fire-starting operation, thus becoming the camp hero. Coach is in awe and Russell is annoyed that Rob is getting the attention Russell wants.

On day 3 tree mail arrives announcing the immunity challenge. the tribes are each to assemble a boat using 7 planks to hold the boat together. Six people must then paddle out in the boat to retrieve and light a torch. Then they paddle back, take their boat apart, assemble a puzzle, and use the planks to build a ladder to the top of a platform. The first tribe to accomplish all this wins immunity. The Heroes work well in assembling their boat and have a huge lead until they hit the shore and have to assemble the puzzle. Try as they might, the Heroes can't get the puzzle pieces to fit and the Villains end up winning immunity.

Back at Camp Good, the Heroes have to decide who to send home. Sugar seems like a natural. She was part of the team that fumbled the puzzle and she (gasp) cried after the challenge. But Tom would like to send Cirie home because she is a strong strategic player. Others would like to separate Amanda and James, while still others would like to break up Tom and Stephanie. But in the end, the first Survivor of Season 20 to be sent home is "cute as a button" Sugar, represented on our pool by Lisa. The good news, Lisa is that you don't have to send me any money. The bad news is that you are not going to win any money.

Remember that you have until 7:00 p.m. CST on Thursday February 18 to pick the Survivor that you think will win the million dollars. I have it narrowed down to a couple, but its a tough call this time.

Thank you to those who have already mailed me their money. I have received cheques (checks) from the New Hampshire Four, from Barb, Roberta, Georgia, Mitzi, Marie, Donna and Grace...oh and Rick just handed me a couple of fives and asked for a receipt. Pshaw.

Until next week

Learn Your Identity for Survivor, Heroes and Villains

Another season of Survivor starts on Thursday February 11. This one is filmed in the South Pacific and pairs Heroes and Villains from past seasons of Survivor. Some notable Survivors won't be making an appearance - Richard Hatch (some small issues with his passport), Jenn Lyons (died of cancer), Ethan Zohn (my all time fav - battling cancer), Jonny Fairplay (who knows!). But some of the ones you both love and hate will be there. This is the 10th year of Survivor and the 20th season - no wonder my memory for some of these people is getting pretty hazy.

Lynn and I made a random draw over the phone, wine in hand, to decide who would be paired with whom. Here are the results. Remember you have to play with the hand you are dealt. You can, however vote on who you believe you will win. Who knows. You might win that nice subsidiary prize.

OK, here goes.....

Barb - You are represented by Rob Mariano (Villain). You all remember Boston Rob of the Rob and Amber duo. I have a soft spot in my heart because he masterminded a win for Amber Brkich which earned me my first ever win in our pool. You originally saw Rob on Survivor Marquesas and again on Survivor All Stars. If you are really into reality TV you also so Rob and Amber on Amazing Race. He is 33 and from Boston, Mass.

Grace - OMG Grace! You got Russell Hantz (Villain) Fresh off of Survivor Samoa and already haled as possibly the most hated Survivor of all time. Russell is the one I renamed the Evil Garden Gnome (or EGG for short cause that was way too much to type). Russell is 37 and from Dayton, Texas.

Cheryl - You will become one with Sandra Diaz-Twine (Villain)- One of our lesser known villains (translation, I can't really remember her), Sandra was the winner of Survivor Pearl Islands. She is 34 and from Stamford, Conn.

Georgia - You have drawn Parvati Shallow (Villain) - Parvati was in Survivor Cook Islands and came back to win Survivor Micronesia. She plays what one might call a "social" game. She is 27 and currently living in Los Angeles, CA.

Kathy - You will have to put up with Benjamin "Coach" Wade (villain, Dragonslayer and all around weirdo). You will remember Coach from his New Age approach to survival on Survivor Tocantins. He's 38 and from Susanville, CA.

Roberta - You have drawn Tyson Apostol (Villain). Tyson was the irreverent Mormon on Survivor Tocantins who liked to wear a loincloth and sometimes even less. He is 30 and from Lindon, Utah.
